Educational Qualifications and Eligibility Criteria

The basic educational qualifications decided by the Central Government and SBI for applying for various posts are as follows:

a) SBI Clerk/Junior Associate:

• Educational Qualification: Must have passed Bachelor’s degree in any discipline (Arts, Science, Commerce, Engineering, etc.) from a recognized university.

• Final Year Students: Candidates who are in the final year or final semester of their degree can also apply provisionally. However, they must submit a certificate of passing their degree at the time of document verification.

• Language Proficiency: Candidates must be able to speak, write and read the local language of the state for which they are applying (for example, candidates from Telugu states must be able to speak Telugu).

b) SBI Probationary Officer (PO):

• Educational Qualification: Graduation in any stream. Those who have done CA (Chartered Accountant) can also apply.

• In this too, final year students will be given the opportunity to apply, subject to passing the exam by the specified deadline.

c) SBI Specialist Officer (SO):

• Must have a technical degree in the relevant discipline. For example, for the post of IT Officer, one should have studied B.Tech (CSE/IT) or MCA. For the post of Law Officer, one should have an LLB degree along with registration with the Bar Council and experience.

• SBI Clerk (Junior Associate): Minimum age should be 20 years and maximum age should not exceed 28 years.

Maximum Age Relaxation by Category:

Candidates eligible for reservation will get relaxation in maximum age as per government norms:

• For OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates: 3 years

• For SC/ST candidates: 5 years

• PwBD (Persons with Disabilities – General/EWS): 10 years

• PwBD (OBC): 13 years

• PwBD (SC/ST): 15 years

Selection Process

The job selection process in SBI is highly rigorous and transparent and takes place in three main stages.

a) SBI Clerk (Junior Associate) Selection Process:

There will be no interview for the clerk posts. It will be based on a two-stage written test only.

1. Tier-1: Preliminary Exam (Phase-I: Preliminary Exam) – This is only a qualifying exam. The marks obtained in this will not be taken into account in the final merit.

2. Tier-2: Main Exam (Phase-II: Main Exam) – Candidates are selected for the job based on the marks obtained in this.

3. Local Language Test: If the candidate has not studied the local language (Telugu) as a subject in class 10th or 12th, a short language test will be conducted for them.

b) SBI PO Selection Process:

Since PO posts are a management cadre, there is a three-tiered filtering process.

The Prelims exam pattern is almost the same for both SBI Clerk and PO. The only difference is in the difficulty level of the questions.

• SBI PO (Probationary Officer): The starting basic pay is ₹41,960 (with 4 advanced increments).
